What is System prompt?
A system prompt is an instruction that sets an AI model's role, rules, and behavior before the conversation starts. It shapes how the model responds throughout, for example "You are a support agent for X; be concise and never share pricing." Custom instructions and Claude Projects use this idea.
The system prompt is where you set persistent behavior, tone, and boundaries once, so you do not have to repeat them in every message.
