What is Token?
A token is the small chunk of text an AI model reads and generates, roughly a word or part of a word. Models measure input and output in tokens, and pricing and limits are usually counted in tokens. As a rough guide, 1,000 tokens is about 750 words.
Understanding tokens helps you reason about cost and limits: a long document uses many tokens, and both what you send and what the model replies count toward the total.
Put the theory to work.
